 Sometimes you just know when you gotta be present somewhere. Celebrating in Chicago’s Grant Park on the night of President Barack Obama’s election was definitely one of those times.That afternoon, I met with a group of community organizers fighting to preserve low-income housing for African Americans in a neighborhood adjacent to Obama’s. Driving home, I tried imagining an African American with community organizing experience—an occupation we had in common—as president. I felt a sense of connection and hope.
