The Applied Research Center (ARC) is a home for media and activism on racial justice, built with rigorous research and interactive technology.  We are currently seeking interns to join a dynamic team of researchers, activists and journalists conducting research and analysis of public policy issues with a racial justice lens. 


ARC’s work is concentrated in three program areas: Strategic Research, Leadership Action Network, Strategic Partnerships and Media, which also publishes ColorLines , the national newsmagazine on race and politics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: This Public Policy Internship is based in Oakland, California. The intern will report to and work closely with the Director of Strategic Partnerships, Tammy Johnson. Duties include assisting in the coordination of national allies developing state level Racial Equity Report Cards and model policy data collection.  The candidate should have the following basic qualifications: strong research and writing skills, familiarity with popular media (video, social networking, blogging, etc.), ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds a must, basic knowledge of various on-line and print research tools, flexibility and creativity. Multi-lingual skills are a plus.  

This is an unpaid internship that offers monthly commuter benefits.  We will work with students to facilitate school credit. Interns will also receive research attribution in the final report.

Requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week during a semester or over the summer.
