ColorLines Reflects on 25 Years Living with AIDS |
|
The national newsmagazine on race and politics marks the anniversary by highlighting our recent coverage of the AIDS pandemic.
Since its discovery in 1981, AIDS has become a critical issue for communities of color. It's the leading cause of death among Black women between the ages of 24 and 34, and Latino teens account for 21 percent of all new AIDS cases. The number of Asian and Pacific Islanders living with AIDS has increased by 10 percent every year for the last five years.
As the national newsmagazine on race and politics, ColorLines is committed to bringing you ongoing coverage of the AIDS epidemic and its impact on people of color. In honor of the 25th anniversary, we are now making bulk copies of the magazine available to select organizations. See details further below.
Here are just a few of the stories that will interest you:
* Journalist and editor of BlackAIDS.org , Kai Wright investigates how public officials across the country are using laws to regulate the behavior of people -- specifically Black men -- who are HIV-positive.
* Phill Wilson, executive director of the Black AIDS Institute, writes a personal reflection on the need for the black community to make AIDS its top priority.
* Activist Dulce Reyes Bonilla examines the explosion of sex talk on Spanish language radio and the possibilities for sex and health education on the airwaves.
* Sex educator Amy André looks at a one-of-a-kind class called "African American Sexuality" being taught at a Northern California college.
You'll find these stories and more in these two issues of ColorLines:
Disease Control: Policing People with HIV, Winter 2005 Eye of the Storm: Rebuilding Communities of Color, 2006
Individual copies sell for $7.00 each and can be ordered on the ColorLines website. However, we can offer organizations who order 10 or more copies a 50% discount, making each copy $3.50 each. The bulk offer cannot be placed on the website, so please contact our Business Associate, Darlene Pagano at dpagano@arc.org. |
