Rashad is the Executive Director of ColorofChange.org, the nation’s largest African American online political organization. He is a thought leader on civil rights issues and a strategic communications expert, and in the past few years has become one of Black America’s top social justice leaders. He was recently selected as one of “The Root 100 for 2010,” a list of emerging and influential African Americans. He has appeared in hundreds of news stories, interviews and political discussions on outlets such as ABC, BET, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, Fast Company and NPR, and his writings have appeared in outlets such as The Los Angeles Times, Newsday and The Huffington Post.
Rashad's expertise is in leveraging media and advocacy to persuade and mobilize progressive audiences of color. He is a widely sought-out speaker and strategist on utilizing media to shift public opinion on progressive and civil rights issues and a recognized expert on the impact of popular culture on American Values. His leadership working to shift public opinion also includes utilizing research, and digital and social media presence to target various constituencies. He has helped coalitions of organizations and researchers to develop communications tools and resources for African-American and Latino audiences.
Prior to joining ColorofChange.org, Rashad was the Senior Director of Programs at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). He also worked as the Communications Director for the Right to Vote Campaign, a national collaboration of eight major civil rights and voting organizations – including the NAACP, People for the American Way and the ACLU. He served as National Field Director with the Center for Voting and Democracy. In 2003, he was lead organizer for the Claim Democracy Conference, which featured national civil rights leaders, presidential candidates and congressional leaders. |
