Facing Race Fundraising Intern
Position: The Applied Research Center (ARC) is seeking a part-time intern to work on a targeted project to raise funds for our biennial Facing Race conference. With guidance from ARC’s network and development staff, the intern will learn valuable fundraising skills and will be an important part of the team working to make this event possible. The conference is the largest national gathering of racial justice advocates, activists, scholars and supporters in the country. The 2010 conference, which will take place in Chicago, will provide a forum to define justice and make change. To host the conference and offer scholarships to attendees, ARC must rely on sponsorships by organizations and corporations. We are seeking an intern who can help solicit financial contributions. The intern will be responsible for: • researching potential sponsors, • determining the best contact at each corporation or organization, • working with ARC staff to draft solicitation letters, and • when appropriate, making calls to inquire about financial or material contributions. Qualifications: No prior development background is necessary, though past canvassing, telemarketing, or other fundraising experience is a plus. Strong web research skills are preferred, as is a commitment to racial justice. Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, January 2010 – June 2010 (exact dates are flexible) Compensation: While this is not a salaried position, some compensation may be available for qualified candidates. To Apply: Please send a cover letter and resume to Aimee Walker, Development Manager, at awalker@arc.org . |
