The green economy is here. There are green jobs to be done and stimulus money to pay for them. Let's make sure women and people of color have access to high quality jobs and careers. Your organizations can use the Green Equity Toolkit to make local government build fairness and inclusion into all green project planning and spending. Don't let the green wave pass over your community.

Watch the Video. Read the toolkit. Use the toolkit.

image.jpg NEW! Green Equity Cohort. ARC has an exciting leadership development opportunity for organizations that are working to expand green jobs to low-income people of color and women.

We would like to invite you and/or other leaders or organizers from your organization to apply for participation in the Green Equity Cohort, a new learning cohort of leaders who want to gain more skills, knowledge, connections and tools to support their efforts to create equitable green jobs. Download information and the application. For more information, contact Gina Acebo at 510.653.3415 or gacebo@arc.org. Deadline is Feb 12, by 5 p.m. PST.

The Green Equity Toolkit: Standards and Strategies for Advancing Race, Gender and Economic Equity in the Green Economy highlights green equity success stories and practical steps for how labor and community organizers can advocate for equity and inclusion in the green economy.

The Toolkit, developed by the Applied Research Center in conjunction with several organizational allies, includes Principles, Goals, Outcomes, Strategies, Success Indicators and Examples for making race, gender and economic equity a priority in green-collar job creation.

The Toolkit will be supplemented by a six-part Case Study series highlighting green economy successes. The first study, "Greening Los Angeles: A Model Case Study of Green Retrofits of City Buildings " profiles SCOPE (featured in the Webinar), which won passage of a green retrofit ordinance for municipal buildings that will create high quality jobs for communities of color.

Look for additional Case Studies and a Model Policy Bank in the months ahead.

Listen to the Green Equity Toolkit Webinar from November 18, 2009. Learn how to mobilize your community to access benefits from the green economy; hear about a successful campaign to create green jobs in Los Angeles; and learn about standards and strategies for advancing green equity. Presenters included authors Yvonne Yen Liu and Terry Keleher of the Applied Research Center, along with Elsa Barboza from Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE).

The production of this toolkit and the execution of related activities were made possible by generous funding from the Surdna Foundation, the Mitchell Kapor Foundation and the Penney Family Fund.
